Receptionists And Admin Team

We have a team of receptionists, secretaries and administration staff who all support the doctors and nurses in an administrative role: booking appointments, house calls and dealing with repeat prescriptions, amongst many other tasks. They have a very difficult job serving as the interface between doctors and patients and may sometimes have to ask what appear to be unnecessary questions of the patient in order to ascertain the urgency of the problem.

Our reception staff are friendly and approachable and your queries will be dealt with in a courteous manner. We ask that you also communicate with our staff in the same polite and courteous manner that you are dealt with.

Practice Nursing Team

Our practice nurses and nurse practitioners are all friendly, experienced and work as part of the team with the doctors and other staff. All are trained to advise about leading a healthy lifestyle, certain health problems, foreign travel, and also to perform cervical smears and other medical procedures. Health checks are routinely offered by our nurses to any patients joining the practice.

Our nurse practitioners, Jacky Chaffey and Julia Steers are responsible for chronic disease management and minor illnesses at the surgery. They can diagnose and prescribe medication and carry out medication reviews.

Certain nurses have extended training in specialist areas such as asthma, heart disease and diabetes. These nurses are able to offer routine care and advice for patients in these areas under the supervision of the doctors. As well as advice about health for travel abroad they offer a range of vaccinations. Please ask about travel vaccinations at least eight weeks prior to departure.

You can make an appointment to see a nurse by contacting the surgery. You will be asked what type of appointment you require to enable the appropriate amount of time to be booked.

Health Visitors

The team is located at: Ashby Health Care Centre, Collum Avenue, Ashby. They are actively involved in many areas of health care and are happy to be contacted on 01724 742350 (answerphone out of hours and for messages during the day).

District Nurses

NHS North Lincolnshire have a team of district nurses who play a major role in the management of patients at home. They can be contacted on 01724 331102 (answerphone out of hours and for messages during the day).

Community Midwives

You are able to attend the Community Midwives' clinics within the Sure Start building in West Street (town centre). The Saffron team also attend patients at home and can be contacted on 01724 747267.

Training

We are not a formal training or teaching practice for health care professionals or students, but on occasions medical and nursing students spend time (fully supervised) at the practice to gain experience as part of their training.
